Hair today… gone tomorrow… ~ WI Photographer

Corny, I know… but some days, that’s just me. Nearly 2 year ago my daughter Grace told me one morning as I was brushing out her hair that she wanted to grow it out long and donate it. Mighty big words for a 7 year old. I’ll be honest, I couldn’t do it. I’ve tried shorter hair, and trust me when I tell you, it’s not for me. I have crazy curly hair (I know, shocker to many of you), the shorter I go the worse it gets. I tried that just before I had Grace, chopped my hair off into a neat little bob, good golly it took me so much more time to tackle than it was worth each and every day. Now if I don’t feel like dealing with it a ponytail will fix the issue every time. But I digress… so for the better part of two years Grace has been working toward the 10 inches needed to cut for donation. It hasn’t always been easy, while she doesn’t mind me combing it, she is rather partial to ponytails. If I never see another ponytail on that child again I’ll be thrilled. So may cute things you can do with a young girls long hair, but my kid just wanted ponytails…every…single…day… The time finally came a couple of weeks, she finally had enough hair that she could cut it into a cute inverted bob. She was SO ready to have it cut, and so was I! While we were in Mexico I made sure to take portraits of her on the beach with her beautiful long hair flowing, then the day of the cut I took the camera with me to CTI to make sure we captured the details for her scrapbook (umm, yup I’m pretty sure that is the dusty thing in my office just waiting for the last 7 years of significant moments in her life to be added). I think many of the other patrons thought I was a bit crazy lugging my large camera and flash with me just for a haircut, but what kind of mom (and photographer) would I be if I didn’t catch this moment for her. Grace was super excited and was thrilled with her new haircut. Now I know you’re all wondering… “but what does this have to do with photography?”… well here’s the deal. In the spirit of my daughter’s generosity in donating her hair, I am “donating” (read giving away!) a complimentary session AND accordion album! All you have to do is post a comment below, I will do a random draw to determine the winner on Friday night. BTW, if you know anyone that is planning on donating their hair, have them contact me. I have a special session just for hair donation clients, 2 mini-sessions, one for before and one for after the cut.

Enjoy some before and after images of Grace.

Kelly That is awesome that she donated her hair…I don’t think I remember her with long hair. Very cute!

Tara She looks so grown up with the new hair cut I love it! It was also for such a great cause. The boys are shaving there hair off the end of April for childhood cancer. Aaron did it last year and raised over $3.000.00. Collin is going to join him this year and well I just can’t picture him bald 🙁 But as he would say Aiden didn’t have a choice mom !

Dawn Great job Grace!!! My son is 3 1/2 and he wants to donate his hair. We’ve been researching it for about 2 years already just because his hair grew so quickly and started telling him about it and he’s all for it! Good to know I’m not going to be the only one dragging my load of equipment for his haircut in a few days!!
